Steps for commissioning your pet or equine portrait:
The first step is to collect and email a few photos for me to look over. It’s helpful to send a selection of photos that give me an idea of the personality of your pet, but for the commission, I will work from one main, high resolution, reference photo. If you happen to have a professional photograph you would like me to use, please make sure to get permission from the photographer before sending it to me. Feel free to take a look at my Photography Tips page for my hints on finding and capturing your pets ‘best side’.
* If you’re local to the Central Oregon area, we can arrange a time for me to come to you to take photos of your pet for a $25 fee.
Now decide the size of your portrait. Click here to see my sizing & pricing chart.
Once you know the size of your portrait, decide whether you want a head shot or a full body. If you’re requesting more than one animal, I will put together a mock image for your approval before continuing on with the commission process. At this time I am not accepting more than 2 animals in one photo.
The next step would then be to contact me by email at willisart2018@gmail.com with your selection of photos, your requested size and portrait details. Be sure to let me know if you are working with any time restrictions such as a birthday gift or surprise commission. I am usually working with a wait list, but I will do my best to accommodate any special requests if it’s at all possible.
Once we are confident we have the perfect photo and have agreed upon the size, I will email you with the final price (minus any tax, shipping & handling or special packaging required). Please see my Terms of Service here. I will then collect a non-refundable 20% deposit to secure your spot. I like to allow myself several weeks to complete a project, however this varies depending on the size and number of animals in the portrait. I will stay in communication with you by email during the project, to inform you of the expected completion date. The balance of your commission, which will include any applicable tax, shipping or packaging, will be due once the portrait is finished.
* Pastel Commissions begin at $125 for a 9×12 PastelMat Original. Quotes are for unmounted and unframed artwork and do not include tax, shipping & packaging. All commissions come signed by the artist and with their own certificate of authenticity.
Unless you specify that this is a gift or surprise for yourself or someone else, I will post WIP (Work In Progress) updates and photos on my Instagram and Facebook pages. Please let me know when you send in your deposit if you need this to remain a secret so we don’t spoil a surprise.
Once the portrait is complete, and assuming you haven’t asked me not to send updates, I will email a proof for your approval. At this point, I can make minor adjustments if necessary. Once you’re satisfied with the finished product, I will send you an invoice for the final balance. I request that you make this payment within 7 business days of receiving the invoice. Your portrait will then be shipped within 2 business days after receiving your payment.
I do make high resolution photos of all of my finished projects, which means you can order prints of your pet portrait once it’s completed. Many times these make the perfect gift for friends and family members, so please click here to see all available print options.
